Boaters are shut out of a stretch of Toronto’s waterfront from Saturday through Monday while the 77th Canadian International Air Show flies over Lake Ontario.
The Toronto Police Service Marine Unit, working with the Toronto Port Authority and Transport Canada, has advised mariners that a Lake Ontario exclusion zone is in effect from Saturday, September 5 to Monday, September 7. The zone covers the Western Channel of Toronto Harbour and Humber Bay, and Hanlan’s Point Beach is closed to all watercraft during the event.
Show times are noon to 3:40 p.m. ET on each of the three days. A practice day ran in the same window on Friday. Restrictions apply daily from one hour before the show begins until it ends.
The zone is marked by yellow caution buoys that the Marine Unit deploys each day. Police say boaters must stay outside it, follow the direction of police and marine personnel, and monitor VHF Channel 16 for safety and security broadcasts.
Drone operators are also affected. Temporary flight restrictions are expected around the demonstration area, and remotely piloted aircraft systems are not permitted in restricted airspace.
The Marine Unit says it will be on scene at all times and that boaters must comply with police directions. The Toronto Port Authority’s Harbour Master will issue an official Notice to Mariners.
