These terms are the agreement between you and TDot News for your use of tdotnews.com. By using the site, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. The TDot News mobile app is covered by separate terms — see Terms of Use — TDot News App.

Who you are dealing with

tdotnews.com is published by TDot News. “We”, “us” and “our” mean TDot News; “you” means anyone using the site. Contact: [email protected].

Using the site

Reading TDot News is free and needs no account. You agree to use the site lawfully, and not to:

copy, scrape, mirror, harvest or bulk-download our content, by hand or by software, including for the purpose of training or fine-tuning artificial intelligence models;
republish our articles in full, or use them commercially, without written permission;
interfere with the operation or security of the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or try to reach any part of it you are not authorised to use;
post or send anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, obscene, deliberately misleading or infringing, or anything containing malware;
impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection to a person or organisation;
use the site or its forms to send unsolicited commercial messages.

We may block access, remove material or close comments at our discretion, without notice, where we consider these terms have been broken.

Our content and copyright

Articles, photographs, graphics, video, the TDot News name and the TDot News logo are owned by us or used under licence, and are protected by Canadian and international copyright law.

You may link to our stories freely, quote a short extract with clear attribution and a link back, and share our stories using the share buttons.

You may not republish a full article, distribute our content commercially, remove credits or watermarks, or use our content to train commercial AI models, without written permission from [email protected]. Ask — permission requests are usually answered quickly.

Third-party material on the site — wire copy, handout images, licensed photographs, embedded posts — remains the property of its owner and carries the credit shown with it.

Tips, pitches and other submissions

If you send us a news tip, photograph, video, document, pitch or letter, you confirm that it is yours to send, that it is accurate as far as you know, and that publishing it will not break the law or infringe anyone else’s rights.

By sending material for publication you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, edit, archive and syndicate it in any format, and to keep it in our archive. You keep your own copyright. We may edit for length, clarity, accuracy and legal reasons, we may decline anything, and we are not obliged to publish or to pay for unsolicited material unless we have agreed that in writing.

We do not treat submissions as confidential unless you ask and we agree in advance — see our Contact page for how to arrange that.

Comments

Comments are moderated. Keep them civil and on topic; do not post other people’s personal information, accusations you cannot support, or promotional material. We may edit, refuse or delete any comment, and we may close comments on any story — particularly where a matter is before the courts. Comments are the views of the people who write them, not ours.

Newsletter and alerts

Signing up for the newsletter is your consent, under Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL), to receive our email edition and occasional messages about TDot News itself. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time with no explanation needed.

Cookies, analytics and your privacy

The site uses cookies and Google Analytics. What is collected, who processes it and how to refuse it are set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. You control analytical and other optional cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time.

Advertising and sponsored content

The site may carry advertising, sponsored features and affiliate links. Anything paid for is labelled as such. Advertisers have no influence over our reporting, and an advertisement is not an endorsement. Any dealing between you and an advertiser is between the two of you; we are not a party to it and are not responsible for it.

Links and embedded content

We link to and embed material from other sites for reference. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, advertising or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.

Accuracy, corrections and no advice

We take reasonable care to publish accurate information and we correct mistakes — see our Corrections Policy and Editorial Standards. Even so, the site is provided for general information and news reporting. Nothing on it is legal, financial, medical, tax or immigration advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a licensed professional about your own situation. Decisions you take on the basis of our reporting are your own.

Availability of the site

We do not guarantee that the site will be available without interruption or error, and we may change, move, archive or remove any part of it — including published stories — at any time. To the fullest extent the law allows, the site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TDot News, together with its directors, staff and contributors, is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising out of your use of the site or your reliance on anything published on it. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to CAD 100. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under applicable consumer protection legislation.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss or expense arising from material you submit to us or post on the site, or from your breach of these terms or of anyone else’s rights.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply in it. Any dispute will be heard by the courts of Ontario, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
