Brantford police have charged a 55-year-old city man with drug trafficking and a weapons offence after an investigation in the downtown core on Tuesday, 1 September.
The Brantford Police Service says members of its Core Engagement and Response Team identified and arrested a man for trafficking in Victoria Park near Market Street. A search after the arrest turned up 3.9 grams of fentanyl, which police valued at $780; 8.4 grams of crack cocaine, valued at $1,280; twelve hydromorphone pills, valued at $240; Canadian currency; a set of brass knuckles; and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
In total police seized 12.3 grams of controlled substances, twelve pills and a prohibited weapon, with an estimated combined street value of about $2,300.
The accused faces three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I substance — fentanyl, cocaine and hydromorphone — under section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon under section 91(2) of the Criminal Code. He was held for a bail hearing.
None of the charges has been tested in court.
The Core Engagement and Response Team works mainly in Brantford’s downtown core, combining high-visibility patrols and enforcement with outreach to residents and businesses. Police are asking the public to report suspected drug activity.
