More than 30,000 Norfolk County properties are being issued wheeled waste carts ahead of a new collection program that begins on Monday, 28 September.
Deliveries began on 24 August and run to 17 September, with timing varying by area. Each property receives a green cart for organic waste and a grey cart for garbage. Existing recycling boxes stay in use; no new recycling cart is being delivered.
Under the new program, organics move to weekly collection and recycling stays weekly, while garbage collection moves to every two weeks. Collection switches to automated vehicles with mechanical arms that lift the carts.
The County says the carts are mandatory and property owners cannot opt out of receiving them. Once the program starts on 28 September, waste has to be inside a County-issued cart to be collected.
