A 13-year-old boy from Ajax is facing fourteen charges, including possessing a loaded restricted firearm, after Durham police answered a call at a hotel and found him carrying a knife.
Officers were called to a hotel near Westney Road South and Bayly Street West on Wednesday, September 9, for what was reported as unknown trouble. Police say they found a boy armed with a knife and arrested him. During the investigation officers came to believe he also had a firearm, and a search of the property with the K9 unit turned one up.
No one was hurt.
The charges include carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, two counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, three counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Police say he was already bound by several release orders at the time, including a weapons prohibition. He was held for a bail hearing.
The accused cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which bars publishing anything that would identify a young person charged with an offence. None of the charges has been tested in court.
