Bought Car Insurance From This Mississauga Man? Police Say Check If You Were Ever Covered

Peel Regional Police are asking anyone who bought car insurance from a Mississauga man to check whether they were ever actually covered. Investigators say a 25-year-old sold fraudulent auto insurance policies across the Greater Toronto Area for more than two years, handing buyers falsified proof-of-insurance documents.

Muhammad Raahim, 25, of Mississauga was arrested on August 26 and charged with defrauding the public. Police say he had previously held an insurance licence and kept selling policies after he no longer had the legal authority to do so. The alleged scheme ran from April 2024 to August 2026.

Fifteen incidents have been identified so far, with reported losses topping $10,000. He has been released with conditions and is due back in court. The charge has not been tested in court.

Why this one matters more than the dollar figure

The money lost on a fake premium is the smaller problem. A driver holding falsified proof of insurance is, in law, driving uninsured — which in Ontario carries fines starting in the thousands, possible licence suspension and vehicle impoundment, and leaves the driver personally exposed for damages in a collision. Anyone who bought coverage through Raahim should confirm directly with the insurer named on their documents whether a policy exists.

How to check a broker is real

Police are urging drivers to confirm that insurance providers, brokers and agents are properly licensed before paying or relying on proof-of-coverage documents. Investigators want to hear from anyone else who bought a policy from him; the Fraud Bureau can be reached at 905-453-2121, ext. 3335.
