A brand of flavoured peanuts sold in Ontario and Quebec has been recalled over possible Salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Everest Traders Inc. is recalling PK brand Roasted Lemon N’ Chilli Peanuts in the 65-gram size. No illnesses linked to the product have been reported.
What to look for
The recall covers the 65 g package with UPC 6 28998 001245, batch code CN94 and a best-before date printed as BB: 2027/JN/20. It was distributed in Ontario and Quebec. The CFIA has classified it as a Class 2 recall, the category used where a product may cause temporary or reversible health effects.
If you have the product at home, do not eat it, serve it, or give it away. Throw it out or return it to the store where you bought it.
Why Salmonella matters
Food contaminated with Salmonella can look and smell normal, so there is no way to tell by inspecting the package. The agency says no reported illnesses have been associated with this recall, and the recall was triggered by its own food safety investigation, which may lead to other products being recalled.
