Google announced a €13 billion (roughly \$15 billion) investment in Finnish AI infrastructure over 2027 and 2028, calling it the company’s largest single investment in Europe. Alphabet and Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat said the move builds “on more than 15 years of sustained investment in Finland.”
As part of the plan, Google signed a 22-year power purchase agreement with Finnish utility Fortum to extend the life of the Loviisa nuclear plant — which employs about 580 people and supplies roughly 10 per cent of Finland’s electricity — beyond 2030, along with a memorandum of understanding to explore new reactors at the site.
Fortum chief executive Markus Rauramo called such partnerships “essential” in “today’s uncertain market environment.”
