Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Toronto on Sunday evening for two events — the welcome reception of the Canada Investment Summit and a celebration marking the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office itinerary, Carney delivers remarks to Canadian business leaders at the investment summit’s welcome reception at 5:45 p.m., then appears at the TIFF celebration at 6:25 p.m. Both are open to accredited media.
The investment summit is the first of its kind, and Toronto was named as its host earlier this week. It lands at a point when Ottawa is trying to pull investment in while managing a trade fight with Washington — Carney spent Thursday at a cabinet retreat in Banff playing down the newest round of U.S. measures against Canadian goods.
TIFF, meanwhile, is in its opening weekend, with the festival running more than 300 titles this year.
