Peel Regional Police have charged a 42-year-old Mississauga woman with attempted murder over a stabbing on Dundas Street East on Sunday afternoon — after arresting, and then releasing, a man they had detained at the scene.
Officers were called to Dundas Street East, outside a shelter, at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, 6 September. They found an adult man with a serious stab wound to his neck. He was taken to hospital and, as of the force’s release on Monday, remained in critical condition.
Police say officers arrested a man who had been in an initial altercation with the victim. As the investigation went on, investigators determined he was not responsible for the stabbing and released him. They identified a woman as the suspect; she had left on foot before officers arrived.
On Monday, 7 September, police located and arrested Lorena Sanchez, 42, of Mississauga, and charged her with attempted murder. She was held in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
The charge has not been proven in court.
