Peel Regional Police are asking the public to help identify a man they say broke into 32 vehicles in the space of half an hour in Mississauga’s Streetsville area early on Sept. 3.
The break-ins happened between 3 and 3:30 a.m. in the area of Alpha Mills Road, Falconer Drive and Plainsman Road, a residential pocket east of Mississauga Road and just north of the Streetsville GO station. Police say the man got into the vehicles “by smashing windows or accessing unlocked vehicles” and that “multiple valuables were stolen.” The release does not say how many of the 32 had windows broken and how many were simply left unlocked.
All of the vehicles were unoccupied at the time, and none was stolen.
The suspect is described as a white man of about 30 with a medium build. He was wearing a jacket with the word POLO on the back collar, joggers, two-tone shoes with white soles, and a backpack. Peel police released two security-camera images with the appeal on Sunday.
Investigators with the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are asking anyone with information, or with security or dashcam video from those streets in the early hours of Sept. 3, to call 905-453-2121, ext. 1133.
The release carries no prevention advice, but the pattern it describes — a single person working through a neighbourhood in 30 minutes, entering whatever is unlocked and breaking into whatever is not — is the reason police services routinely ask drivers to leave nothing visible inside a parked car overnight.
