Abbotsford police are investigating after someone fired multiple shots at a vehicle late Saturday night, just after 11 p.m. on September 5, in the 2500 block of McCallum Road. No one was hurt. Police say occupants of a dark-coloured SUV fired the shots at another vehicle, and “early indications suggest that this incident was targeted.”
Shortly afterward, officers responded to a vehicle fire a few blocks away, in the 2400 block of Sunnyside Place. The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit is investigating whether the two incidents are connected.
The shooting happened the same night Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk performed at Rogers Forum (formerly the Abbotsford Centre), a short drive from where the shots were fired. Several outlets, including the Indo-Canadian community paper The VOICE, have reported that unnamed sources describe the targeted vehicle as part of Virk’s concert convoy, with the singer and the show’s promoter reportedly among those travelling in it. Abbotsford police have not confirmed who was in the vehicle. Sgt. Paul Walker told The VOICE the investigation “remains ongoing” and that police could not comment on investigative details.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the McCallum Road area between 10:45 and 11:30 p.m., or near Sunnyside Place between 11 p.m. and midnight, and who saw anything suspicious or has dash-cam footage, to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, referencing file 2026-38035.
