The last City Council meeting of this term has been cancelled, and the next one will be held by a council Torontonians have not yet elected.
The city’s meeting calendar lists the September 16 sitting as “City Council – Cancelled.” It was the only council meeting left on the calendar before the municipal election on October 26.
That meeting was already a narrow one. Council’s own approved 2026 schedule set it down as a special meeting for urgent heritage matters — not a general sitting.
The calendar gives no reason for the cancellation, and no explanatory note appears alongside the entry.
There is no City Council meeting anywhere on the October calendar. The next council entries are November 15, marked as the start of the 2026-2030 council term, and November 18 and 19, listed as the first meetings of that term.
Council business has not stopped entirely. Three TO Live board committees — Environmental, Social and Governance, Finance and Audit, and Human Resources and Stakeholder Relations — meet today. Those are committees of a city agency’s board rather than of council itself, and they do not appear on the council-approved schedule.
