York Regional Police have charged three men and a woman over an armed home invasion in Richmond Hill and are looking for a fifth person, the force said in a release on Tuesday.
Officers were called to a home in the area of May Avenue and Yonge Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday, September 7. Police say several suspects, at least one of them carrying a firearm, forced their way in, confronted the man who lived there and assaulted him. The firearm was fired during the assault. The victim was not struck by the gunfire. He was found outside the house with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and taken to a trauma centre.
A black Cadillac Escalade was identified as a suspect vehicle. With help from the OPP’s Northumberland detachment, it was stopped on Highway 401 in Cobourg and seized. The woman driving it, its only occupant, was arrested. Three more suspects were identified and arrested soon after, and a search warrant at a Toronto home turned up ammunition, a controlled substance and cash.
Charged are Georges-Junior Saint-Elien, 31, of Terrebonne, Quebec, with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent; Christopher Fils-Aime, 25, of no fixed address, with robbery with a firearm, discharge firearm with intent, possess firearm while prohibited, breach of probation, assault causing bodily harm, obstruct justice, possess ammunition while prohibited and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine; and Ivy Hewes, 24, of no fixed address, and Justin Johnson, 25, of Toronto, each with accessory after the fact to robbery with a firearm.
Police say Fils-Aime was on probation and under a weapons prohibition order at the time of his arrest, and that Saint-Elien was wanted by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal on unrelated matters. None of the charges has been proven in court.
The fifth person is described only as a Black man wearing a grey hoody, black pants and white shoes. Anyone with information is asked to call the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
