These terms cover the TDot News mobile app. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the app. They sit alongside our privacy policy, which explains what the app does with your information.
The app is published by TDot News.
The service
TDot News is a free news reader. It shows stories published on tdotnews.com, lets you save them to read offline, and — if you ask it to — sends you notifications about breaking news and the sections you follow.
There is no account, no subscription and no charge. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the app at any time. We will try not to break things that people rely on, but we cannot promise the app will always be available or error-free.
Our journalism
We report in good faith and correct mistakes when we find them. But the app is a news service, not professional advice. Nothing in it is legal, financial, medical or immigration advice, and you should not treat it as such — particularly our coverage of immigration programmes, which changes frequently and depends on individual circumstances. Check with a qualified professional or the relevant government authority before acting on anything you read.

What you can and cannot do
The stories, photographs, headlines and design in this app are ours, or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright.
You are welcome to:
- read anything in the app, save it, and read it offline
- share a link to a story with anyone, by any means
Please do not:
- republish, sell or redistribute our stories or photographs, in whole or in substantial part, without our written permission
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download content from the app or our API
- attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the app or our servers
- remove or obscure our name, bylines or credits
Short quotations with a clear credit and a link back are fine, and always welcome. If you want to do something more than that, ask us — we usually say yes.
Some photographs are used under licence from third parties or under Creative Commons terms, and are credited in the caption. Those credits carry their own conditions, which travel with the image.
Notifications
Notifications are off until you turn them on, and you can turn them off at any time in the app under Settings, or in your phone’s own settings. They may include breaking news, stories from sections you follow, and occasional messages about TDot News itself — our newsletter, events, reader surveys, and subscription or sponsorship offers. Sponsored content is always labelled.
Links to other places
Some links open the web, including our own website, where that site’s terms and privacy practices apply instead of these. We are not responsible for the content of sites we link to.
If something goes wrong
The app is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it — including lost data, missed notifications, or decisions you took based on something you read.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer in Ontario, you keep every right the Consumer Protection Act gives you.
Notifications depend on your phone, your network, and services run by Google and Apple. We cannot guarantee any particular notification will arrive, or arrive on time. Do not rely on the app as your only source of emergency information — in an emergency, follow instructions from the City of Toronto, Emergency Management Ontario, or 911.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of Ontario.
