West River Street in Paris closes to through traffic in early October so storm sewer work can start, the County of Brant said on Tuesday. The closure runs between Charlotte Street and Broadway Street West, and the road stays open to local traffic.
The project replaces wastewater and stormwater services and installs a new watermain along Broadway Street West and West River Street, and adds a multi-use path where none exists now. The county says the watermain is funded through development charges and is meant to support growth in south Paris.
The two streets will not be closed at the same time. “One route will remain open throughout construction,” the notice says. Broadway Street West stays fully open during the West River Street phase, and work on Broadway will not start until the current phase of the Downtown Dig finishes and Grand River Street North and William Street reopen — an overlap the county expects to last about two weeks. When Broadway’s own phase begins it closes fully, with access kept to homes.
Work under the CN railway tracks will need a temporary full closure of either Market Street or Broadway Street. Which one, and when, depends on CN approving the work plan; the county says it will share that later. Access to Railway Street, the Paris Transfer Station and the Penman’s Pass parking lot is to be maintained throughout, with occasional short restrictions near Railway Street.
